A unique opportunity for Shayne to join in a local Vela Latina yacht race in the Mar Menor, Spain. The Vela Latina is an elegant and ancient design. It appears in the 9th century of Arabic inspiration, and quickly spread throughout the Mediterranean replacing the square sail used by seafarers and fishermen.
Today it is experiencing a rebirth throughout the Mediterranean with the regions of Murcia and the Mar Menor holding large regattas of over 20 boats.
After the race the youngbarnacles crew give our friend, the maestro of the Vela Latinas – Miguel- a hand repairing his own personal Vela Latina. A sharing of knowledge all around as we help water proof the hull and the kids get a chance to go sailing after all their hard work.
Laminating using polyester resin and chop strand is not usually the medium Shayne enjoys working in but we all got a kick from helping out a friend.
